Flawless Hannah just misses out

Competing in her second competition on the island, the 19-year-old set the pace on the beam with a score of 9.550.

But after 38 other gymnasts failed to get near her score, she was beaten at the death by an Australian competitor who scored 9.6 to steal gold from under Hannah’s nose.

Hannah went on to vault where she was seventh, ninth bars and fourth on floor to finish fifth overall.

Hannah wasn’t the only performer from the Arabian Gymnastics team out in Honolulu.

Kyla Howton also took fourth place on floor, fifth on beam vault sixth and eighth bars to finish eighth overall.

Dagmara Koziolek (11) came fourth on floor with another good routine and fourth on vault despite struggling to warm it up well. She was eighth on bars but an error on the beam dropped her to ninth. Overall she came sixth.

Gymnast Natalia (14) came fourth in her age category she also came eighth on vault seventh bars and a great fourth on beam.

Anna Coaton (14) pulled off a great fourth on vault, bars eighth, beam sixth and floor seventh to finish seventh.

Alysha Howton (11) struggled with nerves but was ninth on bars and fifth on the floor.

Head coach Alan Armitage said: “It’s easy to get carried away with the setting of Hawaii and forget why they were there.

“But they worked as hard as I could ask.

“They were very unlucky not to win a couple of golds, but the level of competition meant the slightest error or just wobble would be crucial.

“The fact they came away frustrated that they could of done better was a great sight to see as coach.”
