Will Grigg spoke of his love for MK Dons after he netted four times against Swindon on Saturday, setting a new record at the club.

Joe Mason was the most recent hat-trick scorer for the club, netting a trio against Fleetwood earlier this year but Grigg surpassed that in the whitewash of Swindon which sent the Robins down to League Two in the process.

No Dons player had previously gone beyond the three-goal mark - a feat in itself - but Grigg's fourth puts him to eighth in the club's all-time leading scorers list, and also becomes his latest hat-trick which came for Wigan against, ironically, Dons in 2018.

With another year yet to run on his contract at Sunderland, Grigg's future remains unclear beyond the end of this season. Russell Martin has spoken of his desire to keep the striker, who now has eight goals in 17 appearances since February, and the man himself spoke of his love for MK Dons and the pride he takes in setting a new record.

"It means a lot to have this record and at a club that I love is really special," he said. "You never know, it might be one I end up breaking again one day!

"It was never nice to score against an old club, that was a good day but this one was much better. It's a great day for the club, everyone involved and I'm delighted to score four goals.

"Full credit to the boys, I know it sounds cliché, but they made it easy for me. They put the ball in great areas consistently. The gaffer and Luke have been telling them to look forwards, look for Griggy, looking for the right areas and today it has paid off. I owe them everything and appreciate it."
