A 'poor game' which should have ended goal-less

MK Dons boss Russell Martin said his side had to leave Home Park with at least a point after they came out second best in a game low on quality against Plymouth Argyle.

Ryan Hardie scored one of just a handful of chances at either end as Argyle ended a six-game losing streak, but it was a far cry from Dons' lively performance on Tuesday night in the 1-1 draw with Peterborough.

Speaking afterwards, Martin said he felt the game had all the qualities of a forgettable 0-0 draw, but his side allowed the home side to capitalise with one of their few chances.

"It was a poor game from both sides to be honest," he said. "It wasn't a classic in difficult conditions. We weren't great in the first half in difficult conditions, with the wind against us. But we were resilient and limited them to very little, and defended the box well.

"The game changed in the second half, we hemmed them in and that's how we should have continued. But we lost our way and I don't know why. In games like this you should walk away with a 0-0, then we're walking away talking about a tough, resolute performance away from home.

"On too many occasions though, we let them have one shot on target and we concede it. It's ridiculous, and we walk away angry and frustrated instead.

"The goal we conceded was poor, there's little I can do to defend it. After a fantastic performance on Tuesday, it's frustrating. Plymouth is a tough place to come, they were wounded and desperate for a win but we didn't take advantage.

"It was never going to be a game that was free-flowing with a lot riding on it for them when they haven't won or so long. The conditions were tough, we're tired after three games in a week and so on, but we gave them a goal. The longer the game goes on at 0-0, the more you fancy us.

"It's a frustrating day for us. You have these days in this league, but in games like this you have to walk away with something."
