After his longest spell without playing a game in his entire career, Dean Lewington says the coronavirus lockdown has only made him hungrier to extend his career for a few more years to come.

The 36-year-old said adjusting to life without football has been difficult, especially with two young children relying on him to be daddy rather than Dons’ starting left-back.

But after more than four months without a game, Lewignton said he is eager to get back to playing again soon.

He said: “It has been nice to be at home with my children though, and with football and sport coming back slowly, it has given me a bit of a glimpse of what is to come... and I hope I’ve still got a few years left in me!

“That first month was really difficult, trying to adjust to everything happening.

“It was good to have our training programmes to keep ticking over, but it was tough especially because there was no football or anything to watch on TV so it made it much harder.

“It’s the longest I’ve ever gone without playing football, four months now, so it has been very strange.”
