Adaptable Moore-Taylor won't be charging forwards any time soon

Versatility is a key attribute Paul Tisdale seeks from his players, but Jordan Moore-Taylor knows his strengths lie in the defensive third of the pitch.

The 24-year-old has been deployed as a centre back and central midfielder since arriving from Exeter in the summer, with Tisdale quick to snap up his former skipper.

Moore-Taylor said working with Tisdale has helped shape him as a player since his debut for the Grecians back in 2012, but knows his where he is best suited.

"I’m put there for my defensive capabilities, I’m not in there to go box-to-box and get on the end of crosses, that’s not what Tis wants from me." he said.

"I’ve played under Tis for a long time and I know he likes players that can play a few different positions. I’ve played the majority of my games at centre-half and a few at left-back and here I’ve played in central midfield. You just want to be in the starting line-up, wherever that is – you’re happy to play there.

"I respect what Tis has done for me and how he’s shaped me into the player I am today, he’s played a massive part in my development as a footballer by giving me the games to help me grow. I want to repay him."

Tisdale too is well aware of Moore-Taylor's defensive attributes, but is dubious of his abilities going forwards.

"Behind the ball somewhere," said the manager when asked Moore-Taylor's best position. "I'm not going to play him as a number 10 - I think he can be safe in being selected elsewhere!

Moore-Taylor knows his strengths lie at the back rather than going forwards

"I like my players to be adaptable. I've always wanted to develop a team where Most players can play several positions. The game is fluid, so you have players who are good behind it, ahead of it or in the thick of it. Jordan is someone who is very strong behind the ball, be it in midfield or at centre back.

"I'm pleased with what he has done since he arrived here. There are still things I'd like him to improve on but that's for me and him to know."
