Agard wants to restore Dons' goal-scoring form

Kieran Agard hopes he can strike up a goal-scoring relationship with Nicky Maynard and Daniel Powell to power MK Dons to promotion this season.

The 26-year-old became Dons record signing on Thursday when he joined from Bristol City and made an immediate impact, scoing two goals for his new club as they came from behind to draw 2-2 with Millwall at Stadium MK.

Dons scored just 39 league goals in the Championship last season - a far cry from the 101 they’d scored when they were promoted from League 1.

And after hitting the ground running, Agard hopes he can form a good relationship with his fellow forwards to get Dons back in the goals again.

“The whole front three, of myself, Nicky Maynard and Daniel Powell, want to strike up a good understanding.

“That will only benefit the team. If any of us aren’t scoring, it’s good to know everyone else can step up. That gives you confidence and helps it run throughout the team, that can only be good for us.”

Playing just off last season’s leading scorer Maynard, Agard made the most of the two chances he was able to carve for himself.

And they were different goals too. The first came from a pot-shot from outside the box, while the second was after chasing down a long ball, catching the advancing keeper unawares.

“The first one I just tried to get out of my feet and have a shot. For the second, I saw the keeper coming out, but I saw him hesitate, and then I had no questions what I wanted to do - I wanted to get my head on it.

“I’m delighted to get two goals on my debut, but I’m more pleased to have come away from the game with something.

“As a goal-scorer, I love any goal and I’ll claim anything!”

New boss Karl Robinson has already set the bar high for his new record signing, calling on him to be the ‘main man’ this season as Dons pulled out all the stop to land him.

But Agard isn’t letting his price tag or the level of expectation it brings affect him.

“We’re all ambitious in the changing room and want the best, so hopefully I’ll be able to bring some with me.

“(The price) It’s nothing to do with me, I’m here to play and score goals.

“I’ve got to work hard and take each game as it comes. If I prepare right, hopefully I’ll score many goals.

“I want to help the team however I can, be it goals or performances. I just want to help the team achieve their goals.”
