Alex Gilbey's move to Charlton has finally gone through after a week of uncertainty.

The two-time MK Dons Player of the Year had been due to move to The Valley this time last week only for the EFL to veto the move as a result of the Addicks' transfer embargo.

However, the move for the 25-year-old was confirmed on Thursday night.

Russell Martin told mkdons.com: “It is disappointing to lose Alex but this was an opportunity he wanted to take up, and we have to respect that.

“Despite the pressures that all football clubs are under in this difficult economic climate, this wasn’t a decision that we had to make for financial reasons – we are in a strong position in that regard.

“Ultimately, this was a move that was right for both parties, given Alex’s desire to join Charlton and the offer that we received for his services.

“We are grateful to Alex for his outstanding contribution during his time at the Football Club, and we wish him all the best moving forwards.”
