The 24-year-old has been limited to just 18 appearances since joining the club in the summer of 2016 with two separate long-term injuries.

His most recent - a hamstring tear suffered at Bradford City at the end of February - has seen him drip fed back into the fold, playing twice for the reserves as his return edges ever closer.

But after being named on the bench against Peterborough two weeks ago, Aneke hasn't been seen again in the first team, but manager Robbie Neilson hinted at a place on the bench for him ahead of Saturday's trip to Bury.

"Chuks is training again, and with the game on Saturday there may be some involvement, we'll see how he does," he confirmed.

"And we're playing against Stevenage next week, so we're hoping to get him some game time to get him going again.

"We're desperate to get him out there, but it's a bit stop-start. It's the nature of the beast when you've been out for so long, but we'll get over it and get him back."

Joe Walsh could also be in contention for a place on the bench after a knee injury has ruled the Welsh international out for much of the season so far, while Peter Pawlett looks set to miss the next two weeks as well.

Neilson continued: "Peter probably won't train until the end of next week. It'll be a week of full training before he is back with the squad and ready for selection. We knew a few weeks ago it'd be an injury that needed time. The timeline was better to take him out now rather than have him struggling over a longer period."
