Baker injury forces Robbo to look again

The 33-year-old Player of the Year is Dons’ top scorer so far this season, but has been ruled out of the game for up to three months after picking up an ankle injury against Leeds earlier this month.

Since the window opened, Dons have seen Diego Poyet, Sam Gallagher and Cristian Benavente leave stadium:mk, while bringing in Jake Forster-Caskey from Brighton for the remainder of the season.

But now with Baker out for a significant length of time, Robinson has admitted he will have to rethink some of his targets for the transfer window in a bid to replace what Baker brings to the team.

“In January, we always seem to lose our best players,” said the manager. “It’s part of the process of being at MK Dons.

“You have to be adaptable in the window. We felt we had enough wide players at the club, but now maybe we have to move Samir Carruthers or Rob Hall back out side again. Ultimately, we have to fill that void.

“In this window, we cannot afford to think we have enough. It’s an important window in that sense.

“You saw how much Carl Baker means to the fans when he was in the away end with them on Saturday. I think he was starting the songs about himself! He was conducting them singing his name! Unfortunately now, our physios will have to deal with him in the treatment room, and that will be hard work!

“He’s a massive loss in the dressing room too, and a huge character. He’s one of my better signings. We’re very fortunate to have him. He’s a tremendous person to have here.

“Sometimes he has too much to say, and he’s a talent. He’s a goal-scorer and gets assists, so we’re going to have to go out and find someone to replace him. I don’t think we have someone of his style in the club now. We need to find that type of player again.”
