Baker's brace brings home the fifth victory

Newport Pagnell Town made it five in a row on Saturday as they saw off Harrowby Town 2-1.

Dave Baker’s early brace secured all three points for the Swans as they climbed to seventh in the UCL Premier Division.

Big news prior to kick off was of Luke Emery’s move to Biggleswade Town. Emery had netted 16 goals in as many games for Swans - including nine in his final three outings for Darren Lynch’s men.

His absence though seemed to go unnoticed though when Baker notched his first after just five minutes, heading home Liam Smyth’s free kick to give the visitors the lead.

It could have been 2-0 minutes later, but for Chris Bennett’s fingertip save, tipping Elliot Sandy’s shot onto the post.

But in a carbon copy of the opener, Baker doubled the lead on 18 minutes to put the Swans in total control.

Ten minutes before half time, Harrowby were back in it when Matt Clarke poked home.

The second half was more of a slog for both sides, but with few chances and little quality on show, Newport held on to claim their fifth consecutive victory.

They take on third place Yaxley this Saturday.
