Barker's unsure if he'll be working after Tuesday's Chesterfield game

Richie Barker remains unclear on his future at Stadium MK

The caretaker boss will take charge of his sixth game since the departure of Karl Robinson a month ago, and has been managing the side on a game-by-game basis.

However, Barker hasn't been told whether he will be taking charge for Saturday's trip to the Ricoh Stadium to take on Coventry City.

"I've only been told about Tuesday," he said. "We've done analysis, put some ideas in place. Even if someone does come it, it would be difficult for them to come and pick a team for Tuesday.

"For the time being, it'll be my answer when you speak to me after the game too. After Tuesday, I really don't know.

"It's more frustrating for my kids, who don't know what's happening at Christmas - whether they're getting presents or what! We don't really know."

Last week, captain Dean Lewington said Dons were 'ticking over' with Barker unable to plan anything long term for the squad. The 41-year-old believes though it has made life a little easier not having to plan so many games in advance.

He added: "(Managing game-by-game) has probably been a bit better, because all I can do is concentrate on the next game, rather than three weeks ahead.

"It has made me pick what I feel is the right team for the next game, not leaving anything in reserve. The only one was the Norwich game in the Checkatrade Trophy, where I had half an eye on the next game, but the younger players deserved a chance. I feel a bit like Gareth Southgate - not really knowing what's happening."
