MK Dons are still in the market for a striker despite Jay Bird's double against Stevenage on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old made his debut up front for the club in the EFL Trophy, and netted twice as Dons claimed a 3-2 win at the Lamex Stadium.

Bird, who spent last season injured, has given manager Russell Martin food for thought as Dons' hunt for a striker continues, but assistant manager Luke Williams said Bird's showing will not alter their transfer plans.

He said: "Jay has given the manager something to think about, but we still are in the hunt for somebody with more experience. We're excited to see what Jay can do, and he has a great future if he stays focussed and concentrates, but we need someone else as well.

"Jay has had a tough time. He had issues when he came back after lockdown and the manager challenged him, but he has risen to that. He deserved his goal tonight."
