'˜Blame me if Dons go down' says Robbo

The club can’t be confirmed as down this Saturday when they take on Preston, but know anything other than a win will leave them staring at an immediate return to League 1 with four games remaining.

Earlier this week, Robinson said his future at stadium:mk relies on he and the chairman seeing eye-to-eye about the future development of the club.

But if, and when, Dons are relegated, the manager knows he will have to shoulder the blame.

He said: “If the inevitable does happen and we go down, I don’t think anyone could have worked any harder, so we have to look for other reasons we weren’t successful, and we have to understand and be honest. And my first point of call will be with myself.

“Every good manager has had to go through tough times, and I’m going through them very young and it’s something I’ve had to deal with.

“The results haven’t been good enough, that’s as simple as it gets. And the first person who shoulders the blame is the manager. If people are looking to blame someone, blame me, because then it’s down to me to blame everyone internally.

“Everything I do is for the benefit of this club. It will be around a lot longer than me.”

When asked whether he’d walk away from the job, Robinson felt he wasn’t in a position to make that decision yet, but feels his time in charge, regardless of this season’s shortcomings, has been a success and that booing him on Saturday after the 4-0 defeat to Rotherham was unjustified.

“In the summer, I might be able to reflect on things,” he said. “I’d never disrespect MK Dons. But the boos on Saturday hurt. I deserve more than that, I think.

“I deem what we’ve done this season as a success. I feel I’ve been a success here.

“There will certainly be a day when one of us makes that decision, but for me to say when or where or at what time is a big question.

“It’s better to do it too soon, rather than too late. But while we’re in a relegation fight, it’s not for me to talk about other people not being good enough, or be being better than this club - it would be very ignorant and arrogant of me to do something like that.

“There are elements I could have done better, but I have to learn. In the six years here, I look at it as a success, and I don’t think anyone can question that.”
