There was not much doubt in Callum Brittain's mind about making a comeback to MK Dons this summer.

The 22-year-old has made 115 appearances in the last three years, and after a brief spell as a free agent, returned to Stadium MK two weeks ago, re-signing for the club.

Despite rumoured interest luring him away though, Brittain said he always felt like a Dons player and felt his future remained at MK1.

"I never felt like I wasn't an MK Dons player," he said. "I was still in the group chats, still talking to the rest of the guys, so I never really felt out of the loop. It was the first time I was out of contract, and I wanted to see what my options were, but I never thought about anything but coming back.

"I was speaking to Russ a lot over the summer, and I've been here for such a long time that it holds a special place in my heart."

With less than two weeks now before the League One campaign gets underway, Brittain says Dons should be looking to improve on how they finished the last campaign and continue to get better under manager Russell Martin.

He said: "We have got to expect more of what we saw at the end of last season, and believe in what Russ is getting us to do. I think everyone saw the change over the last few months, and we showed what we are capable of. If we take it game by game, we have got a good chance."
