Making four changes to his side for the visit of Shrewsbury Town did not pay off, said Russell Martin.

Bringing in Andrew Surman, Baily Cargill, Lasse Sorensen and Regan Poole for Dean Lewington, Jordan Houghton, David Kasumu and Ben Gladwin appeared to conspire against Dons as they fell behind inside 30 seconds, before falling further adrift on 49 minutes.

Despite rallying in the final half an hour to salvage a 2-2 draw against relegating scrapping Shrews, Martin admitted his changes did not work as he had planned, but said he needed to do something after losing to Hull.

"We had to make some changes tonight, but we also lost 3-1 at home on Saturday," he said. "We had to do something different somewhere. It didn't work and I take responsibility for that.

"I trust every player we have in the squad to produce a performance. Obviously we didn't do that, so I take responsibility for the changes. We have to manage people, but the people who came on made a really big difference. I take responsibility for the team which started, maybe I made a few mistakes."
