Accrington boss John Coleman said his side had to work extremely hard to beat MK Dons on Saturday.

Dion Charles scored twice at the Wham Stadium as Stanley were 2-1 winners, but aside from a poor opening 20 minutes, it was a game Dons had controlled.

Charles opened the scoring after eight minutes before Carlton Morris netted a brilliant solo equaliser shortly into the second half. Charles scored his sixth of the season just after the hour mark though to secure the points for the home side.

Speaking afterwards, Coleman said Dons did not deserve to be as low in the table as they are - currently 17th - and said his side had to work hard to get the points.

He said: "We've put a shift in and when you get a win, it means a lot more. We've been playing some good football.

"We knew the threats MK Dons possess and even when they were in the bottom two, we knew they aren't that sort of team. They're a really good footballing side and pass the ball well. We knew we had to press them and take the ball off them – they still managed to find a way to get the ball out so fair play to them.

"But we put in a lot of effort and played some good football. The move for both goals was brilliant, and on another day, it might have been 4-3."
