Crewe boss David Artell felt his side should have been even more comfortable on Saturday afternoon and should have won by a bigger margin than the 2-0 did against MK Dons.

In what Russell Martin described as the worst half of football since he took over last November, Dons trailed two the two goals in the opening 20 minutes and in truth it should have been more as the visitors limped to the break suffering no further damage.

Despite Dons turning things around somewhat in the second half, it was Crewe who had the chances in the second period, with at least three great opportunities to put the game to bed going begging.

“The only negative was that we only scored two because we had enough chances to have added to that," said Artell afterwards. "Two was enough today but we still have to be more clinical.

“It is our first league win and our first clean-sheet, I am sure that it won’t be the last. There were real positives from today’s game but I’ve said that we are improving each week and I think that this was another step up from Hull last week. I think we deserved something last week and didn’t get it but the result followed the performance here.

“We were good on the ball but we were also good without the ball and I’ve said, the only criticism was that we didn’t score more."
