The American has been called up to join the USA U23 squad ahead of their Olympic play-off game with Colombia, meeting up with his team-mats in Miami ahead of Friday’s match in South America.

Cropper has made seven appearances this season, with four coming in the last month as he has covered for the injured David Martin, without fault.

And his call-up is just the latest accolade for the keeper, who his manager feels will be a great one day.

Robinson said: “There are some great American keepers, and they’ve had a great influence on the Premier League. I think Cody will one day be one of those.

“Cody’s still a long way from being the finished article. He’s very young and he has a lot to learn.

“He has done himself a world of good in goal for us, it’s just the experience that Dave has that gives us a calmness.”
