Though the 2019/20 season has been given an indefinite extension, MK Dons, and indeed the rest of the footballing pyramid are still none the wiser when it comes to player contracts expiring in June.

Several players at Stadium MK are out of contract on June 30 while Cartlon Morris, Louis Thompson and Andrew Fisher are on loan, but as yet there has been no confirmation from football's governing bodies what could happen to them should the current season extend beyond that date.

Andrew Cullen, Dons' executive director, said while discussions have taken place with regards to the potential scenario, the conclusions remain unclear.

"It's one of the answers that the league are looking for," he said. "UEFA said they want to see seasons across Europe completed by the end of June, but obviously the longer we cannot resume football, the likelihood is the season could spill over.

"Out of contract players and loan players is something the league will be looking at along with the Premier League and the PFA as to what that means."

Mr Cullen added that it was vital to finish the season, saying: "It's hugely important to finish the season in respect to promotion and relegation, but also in terms of commitment between the league and the broadcasters and sponsors, and to clubs who are competing at the top end of tables who want to see a fair outcome for their endeavours. There was a huge consensus around the league that the season needed to be finished."
