Dons are staying patient in the transfer window despite key departures

"We could have had 10 new players if we'd have wanted"

Russell Martin says he is relaxed about MK Dons' recruitment despite the sales of Rhys Healey and Alex Gilbey in recent weeks.

The pair departed for fees to Toulouse and Charlton respectively, and as yet Dons are yet to spend anything in the window to replace them.

With a little over a week to go before their season kicks off against championship side Coventry City in the Carabao Cup, fans are understandibly restless about the lack of depth in the squad following the summer clear-out, but Martin says he is pretty relaxed heading into the new campaign.

"I'm really relaxed about it because I know we're doing something right if people are interested in our players," he said. "I've had various calls from players and agents who have been interested in coming here.

"We could have had 10 new players if we'd have wanted but they wouldn't be the right ones. We're going to do business if they improve what we've got. I'm asking people to be more patient than even I'd like, but it will take time and it takes a lot of work. The good players are already with clubs already.

"This is my first real window in terms of having time to plan for it. You have to wait for good players, and I'm asking people to trust me. When the players come in, we'll be judged on the pitch. We won't be ready in the first three or four weeks of the season, but it's up to us to replace these players."
