Dons face restarting in summer

For years, it had been the club’s aim to win promotion and mix with some of the country’s biggest clubs. Having achieved the goal, and seeing the next four fixtures as Bolton, Chelsea, Cardiff City and Derby County, Robinson feels Dons are at the end of the cycle.

“The end of this year, I think it will be project completed, regardless of the outcome. It’s phenomenal,” he said. “We’ve got to close that book though, and open a new one. It’ll be a really important decision to make in the summer. We have to look forward, use this as the foundation and build again.

“We’re going to some massive grounds in the next few weeks. But after we played Manchester United, we played Crawley. We’re going to Derby and Cardiff after Chelsea. It’s a mad world, but that’s what we’re excited about.”

Robinson, now in his sixth season, has helped Dons develop the project in his strive for a more professional and sustainable club. And he feels it has been a period of his life he will carry with him forever.

He said: “I hear we’ve got no history, but we’re building a history wall downstairs and we’re running out of space.

“Whatever the next 30 years do for me, I’ll never forget beating AFC, the Manchester United game, Chelsea, getting promoted, and even silly ones like beating Chesterfield 6-2, or Peterborough in the play-offs.

“Sustainability, selling players for millions, it has been amazing.”
