Dons knew they might have to wait until late in the day to put Barnet to bed when they spoke in the dressing room before the game,

Cameron Jerome's goal with eight minutes to go was enough to secure Dons' spot in tonight's third round draw. After a first-round shoot-out win over Eastleigh, Barnet were the second National League side to frustrate Dons in the competition this season.

Jerome though said he and his team-mates knew they were in for a difficult afternoon despite the two divisions difference between the sides, and might have to wait until late on to win it.

"Games like this are never easy, a potential banana skin but we remained professional and concentrated throughout," he said. "We said in the dressing room that this game might take 75, 80 minutes before we can get a goal. We had to keep our discipline and structure or turn it into a their game.

"The gaffer will always tell us to keep going and eventually it happened and we got the breakthrough. We could have had another one before the end, but we take 1-0 away from home.

"Other than the final 10 minutes, which turned into a bit of a basketball game, we had a lot of control. It's pleasing to be into the next round and that's all that matters.

"We stuck to our plan – we could have maybe had three or four on another day, if we'd taken a bit more care with our finishing and we could have put the game to bed a lot earlier. The potential for them to score from a set-piece or a second ball was always there, so this is a great result."
