“I want to say thank you to the fans who stayed until the end. It means a lot to me.

“The most honest thing is the league table, and we’ve not been good enough. Certain people have to take responsibility for that.

“If we sat down with 1,000 people, they’d all have different reasons. But we need to look at four or five components of why we’ve come up short - what could we have done in the summer? What could we have done in January? What did we do wrong? What can we bring in now?

“The most important thing is honesty and people stading up to be counted. First and foremost, I have to do that.

“There will be a lot of talking in seven days, but certain people won’t be here next season. Everyone knows my dedication to this club and this is the hardest moment for me. This will be the most difficult nights sleep I’ve had.”
