Lasse Sorensen turned down two other League One clubs to sign for MK Dons on loan from Stoke City.

The 20-year-old Danish midfielder arrives from the Potters in time to be a part of their Carabao Cup squad on Saturday to face Coventry.

He made six appearances for Stoke in the Championship last season, all of which came when the season restarted after the coronavirus lockdown in March.

His performances caught Russell Martin's eye, though the Dons boss had to be patient as Stoke pondered on whether to keep the midfielder a part of their plans for the new campaign.

However, Dons remained in contact with the player throughout the summer, and pounced when he became available, beating competition from two other League One sides according to Dons boss Martin.

“He turned down two really high profile clubs in League One to come to us because he believes in what we're doing,” he said.

“We've had contact with him throughout the period, because Stoke allowed us to, but they were unsure whether he would be coming out on loan. They left it up to him and he's come to us. He liked what we're doing and he will fit in really well.

“I spoke to a lot of people about him as a person and they cannot speak highly enough about him.

"He played really well when the Championship returned and I'm excited to get him here to Stadium MK.”

Speaking on what he expects Sorensen to bring to the pitch, Martin added: “He played a lot after lockdown for them. He's an excellent player, a really good character and athlete and a really good footballer.

“He will bring understanding of the game, he's got an incredible range of passing. He's fantastic at set pieces, and he's a powerful athlete. He'll bring a bit of everything, and competition in midfield. He's flexible so he can play deep, as an eight or a ten.

“He will need a bit of work to get used to what we're doing, it's a different style to Stoke but I'm really excited to have him here.”
