Ben Reeves believes MK Dons are now playing to prove something to the rest of League One this season.

While the company line so far has been to speak of avoiding relegation, Reeves said their target should be to head into next season with a head of steam and to prove to the rest of the division that they firmly belong in League One.

He said: "I think we're fighting to get as high as we can, not necessarily for anything but to prove a point that we belong in this league and we can do something good next year. The most important thing for us is to try and win every game. What we do this season can give us confidence at start of next season.

"We'll take it game-by-game, improving on everything every week."

Finishing as high as possible will require Dons to make a dramatic upturn when it comes to games on the road and weeks do not come much harder than the one facing them this week. On Tuesday, Russell Martin's side head to Fratton Park toi take on a Portsmouth side yet to be beaten at home all season. And the on Saturday, Dons are on the road to Yorkshire to take on league leaders Rotherham.

Reeves continued: "No away game is easy, especially at this time of year with everyone playing for different things. These two will be very different to the last two games we've had, but games to look forward to and see where we stand.

"We respect the opposition, but we're not threatened by anyone because of the way we're playing. Hopefully it continues."
