MK Dons saw the gap between themselves and the relegation zone cut to eight points after their 1-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers, and a vital win for Tranmere Rovers over Accrington Stanley.

Jacob Ramsey scored the only goal of the game at Stadium MK as Dons failed to capitalise on their first half dominance, losing for only the second time in eight games at home.

Tranmere kept their hopes of survival alive with a 2-1 win over Accrington, though they made their lives uncomfortable in the closing stages when Alex Woodyard put into his own net with eight minutes to go, but Rovers did enough to claim their second win in succession. The win cut the gap between themselves and safety to six points as AFC Wimbledon dropped to 20th spot after a 0-0 draw with bottom side Bolton. Southend remain second from bottom despite beating Bristol Rovers 3-1 at Roots Hall.

At the other end, Coventry City moved five points clear of Rotherham thanks to a 1-0 win over Ipswich Town, while the Millers suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to Rochdale, who are now just a point behind Dons in 19th.

Oxford hover just outside the automatic promotion spots ahead of their game with Dons next weekend, overcoming a 2-0 defecit to beat Shrewsbury Town 3-2. Peterborough are fourth after their 2-0 win over Portsmouth, while Sunderland shared the spoils of a 2-2 draw with Gillingham at the Stadium of Light.

Local rivals Blackpool and Fleetwood shared a 0-0 draw at the Highbury Stadium, while Lincoln edged a five-goal thriller with Burton, winning 3-2 at Sincil Bank.
