Karl Robinson thinks his current squad is capable of competing in League 1 this season, but is still in talks about bringing in five more players.

On Saturday, Robinson completed his fourth signing of the summer in landing striker Nicky Maynard.

But while he does believes his current squad are more than capable of doing a job in League 1, he’s still on the lookout for fresh faces.

He said: “I’m speaking to a Premier League club about one player, and I’m speaking to another Premier League club about their loan players and how we can aid their development, and how they can help develop our football club.

“We’ve got to find players with different traits. Maybe someone with more pace, more guile, someone with a different type of asset.

“But I still believe we’re four, maybe five players short. We’re now homing in on them. I know who three of them are and I hope we can get them over the line.”

Robinson admits though he will have to delve into the loan market to land players with the ‘X-factor.’

“To get a player of 21, 22 to go up the leagues, it will cost us millions,” Robinson said.

“For affordability, the X-factors will have to be loan players.

“We have to be real, and not many can afford them at this level.”
