Alex Gilbey believes MK Dons let themselves down in the first part of the season, and 'wasted' an opportunity to be battling at the sharp end of the League One table.

After going 11 games without a win, Paul Tisdale was sacked in November as Dons dropped into the relegation zone. But Gilbey says the players have to shoulder responsibility for the defeats during that period which ultimately cost Tisdale his job.

"I feel like we wasted six months of the season because of our performances," he said. "That wasn't down to one man, all of us need to take responsibility for that, because someone lost their job because of the way we performed.

"But since Russ took over, it has been like the flipside of a coin, everything has changed and we're looking up instead of down. I think we could have picked up points in a few of the games we dropped them in, we could have been looking a lot higher as well.

"And that's what makes this lockdown so much more frustrating because we were playing well and were in good shape."
