Russell Martin was an emotional man after his side dominated Charlton Athletic on Wednesday night to win 1-0 at The Valley.

The Dons boss lost his father on Friday, but has since seen his side win back-to-back games on the road, culminating with a sensational showing against the high-flying Addicks.

"I needed that, I really needed that. I'm really grateful to everyone involved tonight," he said. "I feel emotional about it, it has been tough. I'm proud, I'm really proud.

"It was outstanding. We've had a lot of really good performances, matching stats, but to do it against a team like this away from home, with their firepower, it makes me so proud. We could have scored more, we had about 20 shots away from home, and never looked uncomfortable. We stuck to our plan, did what we wanted to do. Everyone was outstanding. If I single people out, we'll be here for a long time!

"The bottom line is we're becoming really hard to beat. We've lost one in seven and that was against a team top of the league. But when this is what we stick to what we know will bring us success and we don't concede early. We really stood up to everything that was thrown at us.

"We have to keep building now, and be relentless in our approach and we have to justify what we're doing. Performances like that will do that."
