European Championships are the key Dons transfer movement - Robbo

The end of the European Championships could spark a domino effect in the transfer market, according to Dons boss Karl Robinson.

With many of the continent’s best players playing in France, movements in and around the British market have been relatively quiet so far.

But with the tournament set to end in a couple of weeks, more and more deals among the top clubs are expected to be announced, giving way for players to begin moving in the lower leagues too.

Dons have only made on signing so far this summer - that of Ed Upson from Millwall - but the manager says more will follow when the Euros are over and that patience is key.

“It’s quite slow, but the Euros have been on,” said Robinson. “We’re waiting for the domino effect from the top. Not until the Euros finish will be see things happen below. We’re doing what we can do here.

“It’s a weird time for a manager, because I’ve got to find players who will fit the squad and I’ve got to keep the squad here up to match fitness.

“We’re not jumping at anything. The realignment has taken a long time, but it’s like a game of Tetris: we’re just waiting for things to drop into the perfect positions.

“We need wingers on both flanks, a number 10 - but the one I want won’t be fit for six or seven weeks - and then strikers.”
