"The only feeling is excitement at the moment."

As obvious as it sounds, a win for MK Dons this weekend against Gillingham will be just what the doctor ordered for Russell Martin.

Still seeking their first victory of the season, and with his side sitting bottom of League One, confidence at Stadium MK remains high after dominating the statistics against both Ipwich and Portsmouth - both sides expected to be battling at the sharp end of the table.

But performances do not put points on the board, and after just two draws from five matches, Dons are in desperate need of points, and a win will be a huge relief for the manager.

"Everyone just wants to get that first win, it’ll help relax everyone," he said. "If you were in the building it doesn’t look like a team that’s bottom. We work so hard, it’s not affected us, we want to get that win early to give ourselves a chance to move up the league.

"I’m confident we will finish nowhere near where we are now. It’s about justifying that confidence by winning games and there’s no better pace to start than with Saturday."

Striker Carlton Morris admitted the league table is not pleasant reading at the moment, but he believes the experience in and around the squad will ensure they are no-where near the bottom of the table when it really matters.

He said: "It doesn't make for great reading, but there's no-one panicking at this point. We've got football people in and around this building who have done it at all sorts of levels, myself included. The only feeling I have is excitement at the moment. Luke and the gaffer are going to get the best out of me, and I know that to be true for other players.

"Performance-wise, we've been pretty good. Once a team like us gets the rub of the green, we'll take some stopping because I think we're clicking, we've got chemistry. It's one of the best groups I've been a part of, we all stand by what we're doing and it's an exciting time to be here."
