With no talk of promotion or relegation at Stadium MK for this campaign, excitement is already building for what next season may hold for MK Dons - but Russell Martin admits he cannot look that far ahead yet.

Dons’ recent run of 10 points from a possible 12 has seen them climb to 13th spot in League One, but the talk of a run for the play-offs is still taboo.

However, with a temptation to look towards next season, manager Martin admitted he cannot begin to look at what might happen then with 18 games of this season still remaining.

“I wish I could look that far ahead – but as a manager it’s difficult,” he said. “If we continue to play and perform this way for the rest of the season and end up wherever we do – I’ll be excited for next season with the young group we have. It’s about improvement, there are so many players making improvements that it’ll stand them in good stead moving forwards.

“We need to get to a certain points total (this season) and take it from there. It’s up to the players, they have to take ownership of where they want to go. It’s down to the players to choose how far they want to take it.

“I’m not going to get carried away as that’s not how I operate but I’m excited about next season but I can only be excited about it if we continue doing what we do.”
