Football round-up: Dykes goals give Swans wins

NEWPORT Pagnell Town’s winless run came to an end on Saturday when they secured a 2-1 away win at Sleaford, before quickly following that up with a 3-2 home win over Desborough.

First half goals from Daren Dykes and John Thorpe saw the Swans take all three points at Sleaford to end their six-match run without a victory, and they quickly built on that by seeing off Desborough at Willen Road three days later.

Dom Lawless handed Newport an early lead from the penalty spot, and after the visitors hit back to take the lead, a Dykes double saw the Swans clinch the win that leaves them ninth in the United Counties Premier Division.

Division One side Olney Town were also winners on Saturday as they beat Rothwell 6-1 – Stewart Allan netting a hat-trick and there were goals from Geoff Baffo (2) and Jason Goldman.

In the South Midlands League Division One, Stony Stratford were beaten 2-0 by Cockfosters, New Bradwell St Peter drew 2-2 at Crawley Green and Cranfield United went down 3-1 at Chesham.

In Division Two, MK Wanderers lost 5-2 at Hale Leys United, Blletchley Town drew 3-3 with Totternhoe, and Old Bradwell had a 2-1 win over Pitstone & Ivinghoe.


With leaders Willen not playing, Stony Stratford took full advantage to close the gap at the top of the Premier Division to four points thanks to a convincing 9-1 win against Padbury AFC.

Trade 2U maintained their fine run with a 4-3 win over CS Athletic and Stantonbury Social A beat FC Lifesearch 5-2.

Olney saw off New City Saints 3-1 and Santander beat Punjab United 5-2 as goal difference still separates the top two sides in Division One.

FC MMIX remain in third after their 3-2 win against Stantonbury the Manor, while Stoke Hammond beat MK Legends 3-0, and MK United defeated Buckingham 4-0.


Potterspury gave their Premier Division title aspirations a boost with a 4-2 victory over MK Titans, as leaders Thornborough won 2-1 at Silverstone, Great Linford beat Loughton Manor 3-1, and Wolverton Town lost 2-1 at Buckingham.

Stoke Hammond strengthened their grip on the Intermediate Division thanks to their 3-2 win over City Colts, while Celtic MK saw off AFC Santander 5-2 and Wicken Sports shared six goals with Great Horwood.

In Division One, Woughton lost out 4-3 to Twyford, Bletchley Bridge were 3-2 winners at Stoke Hammond Res, and Potterspury Res won 4 -1 at Syresham.

Wolverton Town Res booked their place in the Division Two Trophy final thanks to a 3-2 extra time win over City Colts Res.
