Newport Pagnell 3 Sleaford 1
THE Swans moved level on points with St Neots at the top of the United Counties Premier Division thanks to a routine 3-1 victory over Sleaford at Willen Road.
The hosts took a 23rd minute lead through Darren Lynch’s header, and four minutes later striker partner Daren Dykes scored his 26th goal of the season to strengthen Newport’s grip on proceedings, finishing off a half a dozen pass move.
Sleaford were back in the game with a 31st minute Chris Self reply, but Adam Weston’s 54th minute own goal wrapped up an 18th league win of the season for the Swans, who join big spending St Neots on 57 points, albeit having played twice more.
And there was more good news on Tuesday night when Terry Shrieves’ side made a successful first defence of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy, beating Ascot United 2-1 with goals from Vinny Shrieves and Luigi Rocco.
Olney Town continue to lead the way in UCL Division One, their latest win coming at Wootton Blue Cross.
Ian Lindop’s 35th minute goal had Olney in front at the break, before the Nurserymen doubled their lead with a Sam Parrish penalty five minutes past the hour mark.
Blue Cross fought back - a double from ex-Olney man Gary Janes on 67 and 78 minutes squaring the contest. But the table toppers were not to be denied and Matthew Old made it 3-2 in the 84th minute to give Olney their first win in three.
Rob Fisher has resigned as boss of SML Division One basement dwellers Stony Stratford, with Gary Marling in charge until the end of this season.
Fisher’s last game in charge was a 5-0 thrashing away at Cockfosters, while New Bradwell St Peter picked up a 3-1 win over Ampthill Town, and in Division Two Bletchley Town lost 4-1 to Risborough Rangers.
