The Player of the Month for December was named in Russell Martin's starting line-up against the Black Cats but was forced out during the warm-up with a knee injury.

But after a week without a game, Martin confirmed the 25-year-old is fine and could play a part against Rochdale on Tuesday at Stadium MK.

"He's fine, he came through the week fine," Martin confirmed. "It was a precaution, making sure he was OK. But he's come through the last week and is in contention tomorrow which is good news for us."

Gilbey was the only injury concern heading into the clash, with Martin now enjoying a quiet treatment room.

He said: "We're getting that way – it was a chance to work on some players last week, for some to have rest and recovery. Injuries will happen at some point, but we've got fitter and stronger as a group."
