Carlton Morris' loan spell with MK Dons is set to expire at the end of the season, but midfielder Alex Gilbey is leading the charge to convince him to return.

The Norwich striker was Russell Martin's first signing in January, after cutting short his time at promotion chasing Rotherham to link up with his former team-mate at Stadium MK.

Morris' arrival coincided with Dons' turnaround in fortunes too as the club distanced themselves from the League One relegation zone.

Manager Martin said Morris' character is equally as vital to the dressing room as his performances on the pitch, and Gilbey is leading the charge to convince him return to Dons next season too.

"He has been brilliant since he arrived, not just on the pitch but in the changing room as well," said Gilbey. "I told him even before we left that I was going to make it my main aim to get him to stay, so he's probably glad for the lockdown so he can get away from me for a bit! His banter is not quite there, but everything else he brings is excellent!

"It's the same with Louis Thompson and Ben Gladwin to be fair – it's not just what they bring on the pitch but off it as well. We need characters in the dressing room because we lost two big ones when Russ and Ryan Harley stopped playing."
