Alex Gilbey's move to Charlton Athletic may be dead in the water after the EFL 'declined to approve' an application to buy the Addicks.

Charlton, relegated from the Championship to League One, are currently under a transfer embargo but were subject to a buy-out bid from ESI.

But after failing to meet the EFL's requirements, their takeover is now in jeopardy. ESI have 14 days to appeal the decision.

This though means Gilbey's move to The Valley may have to be put on hold, should the appeal be lodged, or could indeed be withdrawn entirely, along with a deal Charlton allegedly had in place to sign Conor Washington from QPR.
