He may have had detractors at Sunderland, but Russell Martin says Will Grigg's performances are proving him right to bring him to Stadium MK.

The striker has scored three and set up three in his six outings for the club since signing on transfer deadline day, going some way to answering his critics in the north east.

"He has been brilliant," said Russell Martin after Grigg scored Dons' first and set up their second at Gillingham on Tuesday. "His attitude, his attention to the details, and his quality. He is getting better and better, fitter and fitter.

"We're really happy to have him, he's proving a lot of people wrong and a lot of people right as well.

"As long as he keeps performing like that, we've got one of the top players at this level. He's enjoying himself, we just have to make sure his goals count towards three points."

Tuesday night also saw Josh McEachran make his Dons debut after signing on Monday. The midfielder came on as Gillingham netted their third of the night to secure the points, but saw a lot of the ball in the latter stages.

Martin added: "He showed everyone why he will suit us and what he will add. There will be rustiness in him because he's just back from a long injury, but he did great when he came on. Having Josh and Houghts (Jordan Houghton) will really help us moving forwards. Josh will be a really good signing."
