It has been five years, nine months and five days since Will Grigg last warmed up for an MK Dons game, and he looks set to do it again tomorrow night against Rochdale.

The striker scored his 22nd goal of the season in his final appearance for the club back in 2015 - the 5-1 win over Yeovil which secured promotion to the Championship for Dons. But after a move to Wigan and then to Sunderland, Grigg returned to Stadium MK on loan for the remainder of the season last week.

Unable to play in Dons' last two against his parent club, Grigg has impressed manager Russell Martin throughout the week. And the boss is eager to get him out on the pitch against Rochdale on Tuesday night.

"It’ll be nice to have Will in the squad tomorrow and available," he said. "He’s shown how much sharpness he has, his finishing has been excellent. He's ready to play and he’s desperate to play for MK Dons and gives us a good problem.

"It's really good to have a bit of strength in that department now, and Griggy comes in the squad for tomorrow."

Dean Lewington is the only player left of the promotion-winning squad of 2014/15 still at Stadium MK, and remained in touch with Grigg during his near six-year absence away.

Not only buoyed by having a familiar face back at the club, Lewington said Grigg has had everyone excited by what's to come since returning.

"It's nice to have him back!" said the captain. "I got on really well with Griggy, and he was someone I kept in touch with on his travels across the country to so it;s really nice to have him back. As soon as he came in, he lifted the group because he has that quality. In training, everyone had a bit of a smile on their faces because he finishes so well and everyone says 'oh, he's not bad is he?!'

"He's great to have around the place, he's a funny boy, and he adds to what we've got here."
