Healey was taken out of his comfort zone when Martin took over
Russell Martin admitted he was unsure how Rhys Healey would react when he first took charge at MK Dons.
Demanding more of the striker as he returned from injury, Martin said Healey was taken out of his comfort zone when it came to playing in his new style of play.
He said: “I was really demanding of him in the first couple of weeks, and I didn’t know which way it would go.
“We took him out of his comfort zone early on, but he has been phenomenal. His attitude has been spot on. When we need him in the big moments, he does what we expect of him. He has had to be more patient in our structure, but he has been superb. He's scored different types of goals. I knew he was a good player, but he has improved in every aspect of his game.
“The most pleasing thing for me has been his approach to training, and want to improve, buying into what we’re doing and the intensity at how he’s doing it. He’ll tell you himself, in terms of professionalism, he’s really upped his game. He has had to be more patient in our structure, but he has been superb.”
