After spending three-months sidelined following ankle surgery, Jordan Houghton wants a better finish to the season.

Injured following a reckless challenge against Barnet in the FA Cup second round win back in November, Houghton made his return to action against Shrewsbury on Tuesday night, albeit in difficult circumstances. He came on with 32 minutes remaining and Dons already 4-1 down at Montgomery Waters Meadow, but made a good account of himself in a midfield that lacked tenacity and bite all evening.

"Jordan Houghton was superb," said manager Russell Martin afterwards. "It's a positive he did so well when he came on in his comeback."

Speaking about his time out, Houghton said: "It's been a tough few months. No-one likes to be injured but it happens, it was just about putting my head down and getting back as quickly and as strong as possible.

"I feel good, it will take time to get my fitness back but it's pleasing the manager can trust me for the last half an hour. Hopefully I can kick on and have a good end to the season."
