The defender’s 35th minute cross beat the keeper at the far post, clipping the upright before going as Dons retook the lead.

He continued: “I looked up, saw him off his line and thought I’ll put it back stick!

“No, I just put it in the box, and it looped in - I didn’t really mean it!

“The gaffer said to put the ball in the box, so as soon as it fell to me I did.

“As it was in the air, I heard someone have a go at me because it looked like it was going out for a goal kick and then it looped in at the back stick. It’s about putting it in the area and seeing what happens.”

Stuart O’Keefe’s opener in the 2-2 draw also had an element of luck to it, taking a big deflection to open the scoring, but Williams said: “If you don’t shoot, you don’t score. Stuart’s shot took a deflection but we’ll take it.

“We felt we could go on and win it, but they’re undefeated here for a long time so it felt like a good point.”
