Ince spent two spells at Stadium MK, winning the League 2 title and Johnstone's Paint Trophy during his first stint in 2007/08.

After holding talks last week, Gerrard raced into pole position to replace Karl Robinson, who left the club four weeks ago.

But while Gerrard has no managerial experience, having just left LA Galaxy, Ince, who managed Macclesfield Town prior to moving to MK, believes Stadium MK is the ideal place to begin his career.

"If you're going to start your job as a manager, especially as a young manager like Steven Gerrard, there's no better club to do it at [than MK Dons]," Ince said.

"The infrastructure is fantastic. They've got a great fan base. You get support from the chairman, that's for sure.

"He must be seriously thinking about it because obviously he's not going to make an announcement until Monday."
