'˜It's sometimes hard to keep that high level' says Dons skipper Williams

Despite an extra day to prepare for the visit of Cobblers on Tuesday night, Williams felt Dons struggled to reach the same levels of performance they showed in the 2-0 win over AFC, resulting in a tame 0-0 draw at Stadium MK.

Speaking to iFollow MK Dons, he said: “The game on Friday was the biggest game of the season for the fans and everyone at the club. It’s hard sometimes to keep that high level.

“We’re disappointed not to create a few more chances, and I thought we could nick it late on, with Kieran and Aidan going through, but it wasn’t to be. So we’ll take it and move on.

“We looked solid defensively - they had a few chances through Revs, Bowds and Powelly who we all know about.

“We knew what we were coming up against, but the clean sheet was really important because when we’re not at it, we can make sure we don’t lose.”

After an indifferent start to the season, Dons headed into September with a weight of expectation on their shoulders, especially given the fixture list ahead of them. Games with Oxford, Peterborough, Northampton and AFC Wimbledon all carried bragging rights with them. And after picking up 11 points from a possible 18 this month, Williams believes Dons have emerged on top.

He said: “We didn’t start as well as we wanted to but recently, we’re really picking up, got some good wins. “We’re looking to go to Bury and continue our form and get three points.

“Two points per game will keep you there, or thereabouts.”
