Cameron Jerome showed the first signs of why he was brought to MK Dons on Saturday, according to manager Russell Martin.

Having caused a nuisance of himself in the early exchanges, the striker got a low shot in to test keeper Jack Bonham before he swept home Regan Poole's cross on 19 minutes to give Dons the lead.

Showing pace and power to run the channels and put in crosses, Jerome could have finished the day with a brace to his name when he was put through on goal by the excellent Scott Fraser, but his strike was blocked away by Zech Medley before he made way for Joe Mason with 21 minutes remaining.

In helping Dons to their first victory of the season, Martin said Jerome's impact was exactly what he expected.

He said: "I know what Cammy brings. He's not lost his pace and power. He's fantastic in the dressing room and he's really interested in what we're doing. He got a goal today and if he was a few games down the line, he'd have another in the second half.

"We've got to manage him at the end when his legs were going a bit, just like Scott Fraser and Louis Thompson."

While Jerome was only making his second Dons appearance, he is no stranger to playing alongside Carlton Morris, having been at Norwich together earlier in their careers. Morris doubled Dons' lead early in the second half and he too could have finished with more goals, as could Mason.

"Cammy and Carlton were great," Martin continued. "Carlton deserved another goal as well. And we've got Joe and Ste (Walker) coming in who are different players gives us strength in depth."
