The 22-year-old goes immediately into the squad to face Bolton at the weekend, with Karl Robinson already struggling for numbers ahead of the trip to Macron Stadium.

Williams spent the early part of this season on loan at Nottingham Forest, making 10 appearances for the Reds before returning to Selhurst Park.

His emergency loan will last 93 days.

“Jonny is someone I’ve liked for a long time,” said Robinson. “He had an injury at the beginning of the season. He played a huge part in Palace getting promoted to the Premier League.

“He really suits our style. He’s very offensive, he cam play so many positions, there’s an unpredictably to him too. It’ll be like playing with two of Ben Reeves on the pitch!

“He’s a top player. He has a goal of breaking into the Welsh squad, and it’ll be an uphill challenge but he’s so driven and determined.”

Williams is the second player to sign for Dons during this transfer window, while there have been five players leave the club.

Robinson says his brief now is to replace those outgoing players, who have by and large been squad players, with players who have will make an impact in his starting 11.

He said: “There are one or two we’re earmarking that would be good for the club, but getting those deals done will be difficult. Hopefully, we can delve a bit deeper, press a few buttons and improve it.

“We’ve shaved the squad, and now we’re bringing in players to the equivalent of two that we’ve let go.

“For us now, it’s important to get players who will make a difference. The players how have gone are a tremendous credit to themselves, but the ones coming in will make a difference to our starting 11.”
