Nearly four months after his last start for MK Dons, David Kasumu is desperate to return to Russell Martin s line-up.

The midfielder last started on December 19, 2020 in the defeat away at Plymouth Argyle. Sidelined through injury since, Kasumu has made three comeback appearances from the bench on his road to recovery.

Eager to be back involved though, manager Martin admitted the 20-year-old, who picked up his 12th booking of the season against Lincoln City on Tuesday night, is having to bide his time behind Andrew Surman and Josh McEachran.

"If he doesn't start soon, I think he'll end up tackling me and I don't fancy being on the receiving end of a tackle from Dave!" he joked. "We've really missed him, he'll be a top top player. If you look over the last 18 months at how much improvement, that's what it's all about.

"He's very close, chomping at the bit to start, he's physically ready but the two guys in front of him have been fantastic so he might have to be a bit more patient but he's ready. I'm sure it will only be a matter of time before he gets a run of games again.

"He just needs to make the most of the time he gets on the pitch, building up and when he gets the chance to start, he needs to kick on and pick up where he left off."
