Kasumu 'unlucky to come off' against Doncaster

The 19-year-old was arguably Dons best player until he was substituted on the hour mark

Russell Martin admitted David Kasumu was the sacrificial lamb at Stadium MK on Saturday as Dons chased the win over Doncaster Rovers.

Kasumu, making his first start since January, was enjoying a combative and productive afternoon in the centre of midfield, particularly in a first half which Dons dominated.

But with their wings clipped a little in the opening exchanges of the second period and attacking routes drying up, Martin withdrew Kasumu in favour of striker Joe Mason. But within six minutes of him coming off, Dons fell behind to Jacob Ramsey's strike - the only goal of the game.

It has been a breakout season for Kasumu, having amassed 29 appearances so far this season, scoring two goals.

Speaking after the Doncaster game, Martin said Kasumu was unfortunate to be the one to come off but he needed more attacking options on the park.

"(Kasumu) played really well," he said. "The reason he came off was to get a goal-scorer on the pitch, and put Alex Gilbey back in his natural position but it did not make the impact we wanted. We made the decision, to we have to hold our hands up if we got it wrong.

"David is unlucky to come off, but he's earned a lot of credit. He performed really well. But I'm really pleased for David. It has been a big season for him."
