The MK Dons dressing room was urged to thank goalkeeper Andrew Fisher for his saves in the 3-1 win over Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night.

After Joe Mason's first half hat-trick gave Dons the advantage, Fisher was the standout figure in the second period as he kept Kyle Vassell, Paddy Madden, Callum Camps and Shayden Morris efforts at bay - only beaten by a range strike from Sam Finley seven minutes from time.

But for Fisher's saves, Dons could have had egg on their faces having led comfortably in the first half, and manager Russell Martin told his players to thank the keeper for earning the three points against Fleetwood.

He said: "I said to the boys they needed to thank Fish because he was called on far too much. We shouldn't have to rely on him that much in the second half. He's been a big signing for us.

"Tonight, we've used him far too much. He made a fantastic save and Dean Lewington threw his body on the line to keep it out.

"Fisher has been great since he's come in. Everyone can see how comfortable and confident he is with the ball at his feet. And you can see he's a top goalie when it comes to making saves. The beauty of being a keeper in our team is that he doesn't have a lot to do most of the time.

"He took a pay cut to be here, showed a lot of desire to be here and he's showing why he's number one. Lee Nicholls was excellent in the cup games and is breathing down his neck but Fisher deserves to be playing at the moment and he justified it tonight."
