Lawless leaves it late as Swans reach the final

Dom Lawless scored with six minutes to go to send Newport Pagnell Town to the final of the Bucks FA County Senior Trophy with a 1-0 win over Holmers Green.

Latching on to Liam Smyth’s defence splitting pass, Lawless fired home the only goal of the game in the 84th minute.

The first half was fairly even as no quarter was given by either side during a passionate, cut and thrust match. The Green’s were fast to close down the Newport play and the Swan’s back line had to be alert against the danger of Holmer’s quick breaks.

The second period was a different story as Newport stamped some authority on the proceedings. They moved the ball more quickly and didn’t over complicate their play. However, as in all good cup ties, they didn’t have it all their own way as Holmer had a strong spell shortly before the tie was decided by Lawless’ emphatic strike.

Newport must await the result of the game between Flackwell Heath and Binfield to see who they play in the final.
